These shops are comprised of stretcher bond dark coloured bricks including dark brown, brown, tan, cream and black. They are iron rod raked joints and the bricks have a smooth but slightly chipped texture. Defects include chipped edges and smeared mortar (some mortar drips onto lower bricks). The bricks are structural and the building joins another masonry building that was constructed after this building. An expansion joint can be seen under the window in the top left of the image which helps prevent cracking (there are no cracks in the mortar of this edifice). One can also see a stain that runs down the side of the building around the corner from the “denture clinic” sign. This is perhaps due to a leaking gutter above as oils and perhaps rust leak down the facade, in turn staining the brickwork.
